DRESDEN AND NAPLES, Fla. – Donald H. Walton, 85, died Saturday, March 25, 2006, at the Frances Georgeson Hospice House in Naples, Fla. He was born May 21, 1920, in Caribou, the son of Ishmael and Hazel B. Doak Walton. He attended Caribou schools until the 12th grade. Mr. Walton entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945. He was a member of the Headquarters Company 3rd Battalion, 255th Infantry Regiment as a heavy machine gunner, having participated in World War II campaigns in Tunisia, Sicily and Rome Arno. He was a recipient of many medals throughout his service in the U.S. Army. After his discharge from the service, he spent many years as a mechanic until receiving full service related disability status in 1975. Mr. Walton was a member of the VFW and a former member of the Bath Senior Citizens. He was an artist, having painted several pictures for his family and friends. He loved to read, fish and play online poker. He was predeceased by his wife of more than 50 years, Vada P. Walton; a brother, Philip E. Walton; and a special son, Harold Hull. Mr Walton is survived by his five children, Judy A. Campeau and her husband, Don, of Dresden, Dawn M. Churchill and her husband, Herb, of Newport News, Va., Margaret R. Korhonen and her husband, Billy, of Auburn, Philip D. Walton and his wife, Marlene, of Auburn and Debra K. Blackwell and her husband, John, of Naples, Fla. Mr. Walton is also survived by his special daughter, Judy Hull of Mapleton; a sister, Violet B. Serritella of Fort Pierce, Fla.; a brother, Raymond B. Walton of Caribou; 23 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. There will be visiting hours 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. A military service will be held 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery, Caribou. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Naples, 1095B Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105.
