WILMINGTON, N.C. – Gertrude Marie Todd, formerly of Caribou, died Saturday, March 25, 2006, in Britthaven of Wrightsville Beach, N.C. She was born July 15, 1915, in Grand Isle, the daughter of the late Florent and Sophie Corbin Dumond. Despite her limited formal education, she was a lady of many talents, including being a wonderful seamstress, a very talented cook and a French translator for local farmers and the courts. She was employed at Cary Memorial Hospital in Caribou in various capacities. She was also employed with the U.S. Post Office and the S&H Stamp Store in Caribou. She moved to North Carolina in 1997 to be near her daughter, Patty, who cared for her in her declining years and during her losing battle with Alzheimer’s. Surviving are her six children, Carolyn Brashear of Dayton, Ohio, Diane Walker Ketch and husband, Max, of Caribou, Mary Gregory and husband, Dan, of Jacksonville, Fla., Patricia Todd Mazzaglia of Wilmington, N.C., Frederick Todd and wife, Ann Pistell, of Pittston and Howard Todd and wife, Betty, of Hillsdale, N.Y.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
