HOULTON – Donald M. Ladd, 83, died June 20, 2005, at Gardiner Health Care Facility. He was born May 21, 1922, at Kennebunk, the son of Harvey and Bernice (Mark ) Ladd. Donald served in the U.S. Army Air Corps Q.M. during World War II. He was a member of the Military Street Baptist Church, singing in the choir for 33 years. He worked in various shoe factories as a stitching room machinist, coming to Houlton in 1959 to supervise a cutting and stitch shoe factory. He also worked for the Maine Glove Factory, retiring after eight years. He was fondly known as the “Sewing Machine Repairman” and loved operating his Ham Radio. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen (Millet) Ladd of Houlton; three sons, Nelson Ladd of Connecticut, Baree Ladd of Sherman, Arnold Ladd of Des Plaines, Ill.; one daughter, Nancy Tingley and her husband, Gary, of Littleton; eight grandchildren, Belinda, Richard, Michael, Garry, Karla, Gregory, Gerry and Gillian; several great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold Ladd of Maryland; two sisters, Verna Hibbard of New York, Phyllis Langdon of Arizona; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson, Geoffrey; three brothers, Gordon Ladd, Harland Ladd and Kenneth Ladd. Friends may call at the Dunn Funeral Home, 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Randall Burns and the Rev. Jim Flye officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
