CARIBOU – Donald T. Merritt, 75, died Nov. 22, 2006, in Bangor after a brief illness. He was born Sept. 17, 1931, in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, the son of Charles and Doris Merritt. He was a graduate of the Grand Falls high school and the McGill University, Montreal, Canada. Don was a well-known photographer for 55 years and was a retired federal employee with the Farmers Home Administration. He was a member of the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church, the Caribou Masonic Lodge No. 170 AF & AM, the Caribou Snowmobile Club, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees the Tri City Amateur Radio Club. He married Zelma E. (Kelley) Merritt June 1, 1957. Surviving, in addition to his wife of Caribou, are one son, Gary A. Merritt and his wife, Lynn and daughter, Staci Roberts of Caribou; one daughter, Lori L. Carter and her husband, Richard and daughters, Lindsey, Kelley and Chelsey; stepchildren, Rita, Brianna and Jason; a great-grandson, Aiden of Crofton, Md.; and one sister, Marilyn Cousins-McIntosh and her husband, Roscoe, of Wade. Friends may call 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, until time of services, which will be held 1 p.m. at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, with Mary Lou Brown officiating. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish to contribute in memory of Don, may do so through the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church Memorial Fund of the Parkinson Research Foundation. Envelopes may be obtained through the funeral home.
