BANGOR – Retired Lt. Col. Donald T. O’Connor, 83, died peacefully Nov. 28, 2006, at a Bangor nursing home. He was born in Natick, Mass., the son of Rose (Vahey) and John O’Connor. He grew up in Dorchester, Mass., before moving to Dover-Foxcroft. As a member of the Army Air Corp, he flew P-47s in the European theatre during World War II and served in the Maine Air National Guard’s 132nd fighter interceptor squadron, based in Bangor. After retiring from the military, he worked as a broker at Dawson Real Estate, Bangor. He was an avid golfer and a longtime member of the Piscataquis County Country Club, Guilford and the Bangor Municipal Golf Club. He was predeceased by his three brothers, Al, Charles and John of Massachusetts. He is survived by his one sister, Eunice O’Connor of Massachusetts; his former wife and mother of his children, Gwen (Jansson) O’Connor; three sons, Chris, Dennis and Kevin O’Connor; four daughters, Mary O’Connor, Ann Mc-Namara, Kathy O’Connor and Carol Lovett; six grandchildren, Tommy, Connor and Gavin McNamara, Evan and Ariel Worthing and Kavvanah O’Connor and several nieces and nephews. A private funeral mass was held Dec 2, at St. Gregory’s Parish, Dorchester, Mass. The family extends their appreciation to Ross Manor Rehab facility for the professional care and compassion provided during Don’s brief stay.
