SOUTHINGTON, Conn. – Rita A. Sweeney, 93, of Red Oak Drive, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006, at the Hospital of Central Connecticut, Bradley Memorial. Born May 2, 1913, in Fort Kent, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Eleanor (Thibodeau) Sweeney. Rita graduated from Mount Mercy Academy, Waterville, then six months at Husson Business College, Bangor. Rita moved to Hartford, Conn., and worked at United Aircraft from 1943 to 1945. She then returned to Presque Isle to care for her ill parents. In 1995, she returned to Connecticut to live with her sister, Lucie, in Southington, Conn. She was a parishioner of St. Dominic Church. Rita loved knitting, arts and crafts and playing cards. She is survived by a sister, Lucie A. Sweeney of Southington, Conn.; and a brother, John Sweeney Jr. and his wife, Althea, of Portland; two nieces, Alexandra Allison and her husband, Kenneth, and Rita Perry and her husband, Ernest; a nephew, Philip Bushey; two great-nieces, Heather Allison and Eleanor Perry. She was predeceased by two brothers, Hermel and Albert Sweeney; and a sister, Doris Dennis. Funeral and burial will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
