SARGENTVILLE – Donna L. (Howard) Day, 57, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, at her daughter’s home, in Windham, after a three year battle with kidney cancer. She never gave up hope that she would win the battle. She was born Jan. 23, 1949, in Castine, to Richard J. and Ethel Tapley Howard. She graduated valedictorian from Brooklin High School and attended Husson College, Bangor. She then worked for Bar Harbor Bank and Trust for 33 years, in both the Blue Hill and Deer Isle branches. During those years she came to know many people in the area and everyone knew her, especially for her laugh and her happy upbeat personality and sense of humor. She loved spending time with her granddaughter and her nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed watching NASCAR races; meeting one of her favorite drivers, Michael Waltrip and also being a Beatles fan; she was happy to have been able to see Paul McCartney in concert. She also enjoyed photography and anything to do with cars. She was predeceased by her father, Richard J. Howard in 1992. She is survived by her mother, Ethel Tapley Howard Tandy; stepfather, John Tandy of Brooklin; one sister, Joanne Preble of Canaan; one daughter, Elizabeth Nangle and her husband, Timothy, of Windham; one granddaughter, Sydney Elise Nangle; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Donna specifically asked for a party instead of a funeral service, so there will be a gathering of remembrance to celebrate her life 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at Eggemoggin Oceanfront Lodge, Brooklin. Donations may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the guidance of Independent Death Care, 471 Deering Ave., Portland.
