BUCKS HARBOR and MACHIAS – Doris L. Colbeth, 91, of Machias went to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Marshall Health Care, Machias. She was born Jan. 4, 1917, in South Portland, the daughter of the late Earl G. and Gertrude H. (Nelson) Bean. Mrs. Colbeth was a graduate of Old Town High School, Class of 1935. After high school, she became employed at J.J. Newberry’s, Bangor, for many years. Doris married Julian Colbeth, May 22, 1949, and moved downeast to Bucks Harbor, where they began their life together. From 1960 to 1969, Doris and Julian owned and operated Colbeth’s General Store, Bucks Harbor. After the sale of her grocery store, she worked at a clam shop, where she shucked clams for many years. Mrs. Colbeth enjoyed giving and receiving birthday cards and Christmas cards. She was an avid reader and a member of Bucks Harbor Baptist Church and of Gideon’s Auxiliary for many years. She shared 37 years of marriage with the late Julian Colbeth, who died in 1986. Family members include her son, Bruce Colbeth and his wife, Tammi, of East Machias; three grandsons, Brent Colbeth and fiancee, Kailee Wagner, Steven Colbeth and Corey Colbeth; a sister, Peggy Sexton and husband, Al, of Weston, Mass.; and a sister-in-law, Jan Bean of Connecticut; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by brothers, Earl, Everett and Ralph; and by sisters, Marion, Helen, Winifred and Barbara. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, May 5, at Hillside Cemetery, Bucks Harbor, with Pastor Donald Wood Sr. officiating. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
