HODGDON – Fredrick Mann Boutilier, 88, died April 30, 2008, with his wife, Winn, at his side at his home. He was born May 12, 1919, in Houlton, the son of Samuel and Florence (Mann) Boutilier. Fred graduated from Houlton High School and joined the U.S. Army, where he served for five years of active duty and 15 years in the reserves retireing as a master sargent. While serving in the military in Iceland, he met his first wife, Aslaug (Marilyn) Magnusdottir. When he returned home, he attended and graduated from the University of Maine and taught high school in Houlton and Hartland. He retired from New York and Penn Central Railway Perishable Inspection Agency in 1984, where he worked for more than 20 years. Fred was active in Boy Scouts, where he served on the local board and in his community. He loved working outside, hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with his cousins in Oakfield. Fred is survived by his wife, Winifred (Budrow) Crocker Boutilier of Hodgdon; one son, David Boutilier and his wife, Mary, of Orlando, Fla.; three granddaughters, Lindsay of Bentonville, Ark., Rachel of St. Paul, Mich., and Kelsey of Orlando, Fla.; one brother, Orville Boutilier of Houlton; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Ruth; several nieces and nephews, Carol, Patty, Joyce, Ruth, Beth, Janice, Nancy and Mark; and one special niece, Tota Donovan of Bellingham, Wash., who lived with him during her high school years and called him 4 p.m. every Sunday. He also left behind three stepchildren, Raelene Page and her husband, Daniel, of Danforth, Simone Carter and her husband, Charles, of Hodgdon, and Rex Crocker and Tina of Danforth; 12 stepgrandchildren, 13 great-stepgrandchildren, who were all very close to him. Fred was predeceased by his first wife, Marilyn; and his brothers, Morris, Robert and Gordon Boutilier. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday at Dunn Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, corner of Pleasant Street and Highland Avenue. A committal service will be held at Maine Veterans’ Cemetery, Augusta.
