KNOX and BELFAST – Doris L. Montgomery, 89, died Oct. 3, 2006, at a local nursing home. She was born June 2, 1917, in Worcester, Mass., the daughter of Walter and Ella (Scofield) Lantz. She was educated at Northfield – Mount Hermon School and Bridgewater State College with a bachelor’s degree in education. After her children were grown, she went back to school and earned a master’s degree in library science. She was a reference librarian at Boyden Public Library, Foxboro, Mass. After retiring to Maine, she volunteered at adult education to teach high school equivalency for which she was awarded Maine Association for Public School Adult Education, Teacher of the Year, in 1989. Doris was predeceased by her husband, Donald E.A. Montgomery, M.D.; and a grandson, David. She is survived by her children, Donna, David, Darrah, Douglas, Dwight Montgomery, Deborah Titus and Dorrit Emerson; and grandchildren, Katherine, Elizabeth, Michael, Sarah, Shawna, Mark, Jessica and Carrie. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
