NEWBURGH – Doris Vera (Toothaker) Spaulding, 96, passed away peacefully June 14, 2004, at a Bangor healthcare facility. She was born Jan. 26, 1908, in Newburgh, the daughter of Charles E. and Delilah E. (Gatchell) Toothaker. Doris had worked for many years as an instructor in area shoe factories. She was predeceased by her husband, Wilbur Spaulding, in 1983; and seven brothers. She is survived by two brothers, Llewellyn Toothaker of Bangor, and Lester Toothaker of Newburgh; two sisters, Marguerite “Ardee” Fearon of Newburgh, and Sybil Littlefield of Winterport. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Chapman’s Cemetery, Chapman Road, Newburgh, with the Rev. Kathryn Smith, Associate Pastor of the East Orrington Congregational Church, officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden.
