PRESQUE ISLE and CARIBOU Helen F. Bennett, 90, wife of Philip R. Bennett Sr., died June 13, 2004, at Presque Isle, following a long illness. She was born Feb. 23, 1914, in Caribou, the daughter of Harry and Emma (Lloyd) Bell. Helen was a 1931 graduate of Caribou High School. After attending Colby College in Waterville, she was employed by Roderick’s Camera Store in Caribou for a number of years. She married Philip R. Bennett Oct. 12, 1940. Later, she worked with her husband at their Caribou Nation-Wide Grocery Store. Mrs. Bennett was also employed as a hostess at Rolando’s restaurant in Auburn, a housekeeper at Sweetser Children’s Home in Saco, and as a hostess at the Sparkhawk Restaurant in Ogunquit. She was a member of the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church. Helen was an avid bridge and solitaire player and enjoyed music and her flower gardens. Surviving in addition to her loving husband of more than 63 years, Phil of Presque Isle, are her three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Greta Bennett of Newark, Del., Philip and Elizabeth Bennett Jr. of Caribou, and Reginald and April Bennett of Wells; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Mildred Bennett of Portland. Mrs. Bennett will also be fondly remembered by her many caregivers at the Presque Isle Nursing Home and at Leisure Gardens. She was predeceased by two sisters, Evelyn Rowe and Mary Roderick. Private family services will be held Thursday, June 17, 2004, from the Chapel of the Mockler Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Webster Cemetery. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Mrs. Bennett may do so through the Presque Isle Nursing Home Memorial Fund. Envelopes are available through the funeral home.
