ELLSWORTH and VERO BEACH, Fla. – Dorothea E. Burnside, 86, died Dec. 13, 2003, at Golden Acres in Franklin. She was born Nov. 25, 1917, in Arlington, Mass., the daughter of C. Frederic and Dorothy (Clements) Evans. Dorothea was a teacher for many years and did volunteer work in hospitals. She collected antiques and played flute for the Junior Boston Pops. She loved nature. She is survived by four daughters, Joy Pottle and her husband, Merrill, and Laurie Burnside, all of Ellsworth, Pam Byars and her husband, Harold and Shelley Burnside, all of Vero Beach, Fla.; a sister, Betty King and her husband, George, of Concord, Mass.; nine grandchildren, Wendy, Ric, JoAnne, Marilee, Dori, Allison, Nathaniel, Jon and Jack; eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Harvey Edgar Burnside; a daughter, Ann Holloman; and a brother, Robert Evans. She will be remembered by her loving heart, open mind and her adventurous spirit. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the Birdsacre Sanctuary, P.O. Box 485, Ellsworth, ME 04605. Arrangements are by the Jordan Funeral Home, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth.
