She was born on Jan. 27, 1912 in rural Clinton, Iowa, the ninth and only surviving child of Augusta and Charles Seeser. After attending Clinton schools, she continued her education at Wartburg College, the University of Iowa, and Northwestern University, receiving many awards both for scholastic and athletic achievement. During the 1930’s and 40’s, she taught in Clinton. After studies at George Washington University, she began a new career as a social worker, first with the Red Cross and later with the Veteran’s Administration. Upon her marriage on June 14, 1947, in Clinton, to Edward C. Mickey, who preceded her in death on April 21, 2002, she became the loving stepmother of two daughters, Cristy Holton-Jero (Unto), Helsinki, Finland, and Judy Madson (Harris), Brooksville. She received her MSW from the University of Iowa in the late 1950’s and then became a school social worker, first in Moline, Ill., and later in Evanston, Ill., continuing in that capacity until her retirement in 1976. In everything she undertook, she was hard working and dedicated, always a loyal friend and a caring human-being, as evidenced by being awarded the “Outstanding Social Worker” for the State of Illinois in 1976. She will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind. In addition to her daughters, she is survived by four grandchildren: Edward (Jennifer) Holton, Wheat Ridge, Colo., Elizabeth Holton, Plano, Texas, Susan (Brian) Smith, Ellsworth, and Polly (Oliver) Cox, Ft.
