EDGECOMB – Dorothy B. Cost, 67, of Middle Road, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, at her daughter’s home in Glenburn. She was born Aug. 29, 1940, in Edgecomb, daughter of William R. and Frances F. Bennett Sr. She was a 1959 graduate of Wiscasset High School. Shortly after graduating she married William T. Cost Jr. After briefly residing in Farmington and Alna in 1965, Dottie and her family moved to Wiscasset, where she raised her six, plus, children. Dorothy, known to all as “Dottie,” worked for many restaurants in the area. Most recently she worked for Fisherman’s Wharf, Boothbay Harbor, as the dinning room manager. For years Dottie worked for Wiscasset Speedway as the head score keeper, which fueled her passion for race day. She enjoyed going to Louden every September for the “big race.” Dottie was a founding member of Wiscasset Ambulance Department, a member of Wiscasset High School Boo-sters, Lincoln County Republican Party and First Congregational Church of Wiscasset. Her love and devotion to her family was her lifelong priority. Her ability to make everyone feel welcome will be remembered by all. She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. Fond memories are shared by all who lost dollar after dollar playing cards at Dottie’s kitchen table. Until recently she loved to brag about her beloved New York Yankees. She enjoyed sewing and crafting but the company she shared while doing so, was precious. She was predeceased by two sons, Richard R. Cost in 1975 and David A. Cost in 1996; and four brothers, Dermont, Floyd, Ralph and Theodore Bennett. She is survived by two daughters, Vickie Bedore and her husband, Bob, of Glenburn and Amanda Cost and Chad Kirkpatrick of Kenduskeag; three sons, Willaim T. Cost III and Tammy Webb of Randolph, Rodney Cost and his wife, Lisa, of Edgecomb and Peter Dalton and his wife, Leaslie, of Wiscasset; two sisters, Judith Lavway and her husband, Paul, of Carmel and Patricia Longley and her husband, Eric, of Brunswick; one brother, William Bennett of Edgecomb, 14 grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Community Health and Counseling Service’s Hospice Program, CancerCare of Maine and the many friends and coworkers for their love and support. Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal St., Wiscasset. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Congregational Church of Wiscasset with the Rev. John Potter officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held after at her home in Edge-comb. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in the spring.
