DOVER-FOXCROFT – Dorothy E. Blanchard, 87, wife of the late Bertrand E. Blanchard, died peacefully with members of her family present, May 8, 2007, at a local nursing home. She was born Oct. 31, 1919, in Limestone, the daughter of George Henry and Aubign Estelle (Knight) Phair. Dot graduated from Limestone High School and the University of Maine at Orono, Class of 1940, with a degree in home economics. During World War II, she worked as a home demonstration agent for the Extension Service, Skowhegan. She married Bert Blanchard, April 15, 1945, and they made their first home on the Downs Farm, Sebec. In 1948, they moved to Exeter, and together operated Smooth Acres Potato Farms for many years. While in Exeter, Dot served on the school board. Moving to Dover-Foxcroft in 1965, she worked part-time at Koritsky’s department store where she thoroughly enjoyed seeing her friends and neighbors. She attended the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church and was a member of the Mocutoc and Miosac Clubs. Dot was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grand-mother. She enjoyed gardening, reading, antiqueing with her friends, and spending time at the family cottage on Sebec Lake. Her remarkable cooking was always evident at family gatherings and will be remembered by family and friends alike. She will be dearly missed by all those whose lives she touched. She was predeceased by her husband, Bert; and a son, James M. Blanchard. She is survived by a son, David P. Blanchard and wife, Susan, of Gray, and their family, children, Jennifer Blanchard, Sarah Blanchard, Emily Blanchard, and Orlando Woodard, and Tyler Blanchard, and grandchildren, Isaiah and Eliza Woodard; a son, Stephen D. Blanchard and wife, Teeter, of Dover-Foxcroft, and their family, children, Chad Blanchard, Ryan Blanchard, Chris Blanchard, Mike Hutchinson and wife, Karla, Penny Gourde and husband, Rick, and Brett Hutchinson and wife, Kelly, great-grandchildren, Danielle, Emily, Chris, Chase, and Kilee Hutchinson, John II and Zane Harmon, Kerri Jo Ramos Gavin, Gabe, Clarisse and Brad Hutchinson, great-great-grandsons, John III and Winston Harmon, and Jamison Gavin; a daughter, Margaret “Peggy” Padgett and husband, Mike, of Newcastle, and their family, children, James Haskell Padgett and wife, Lucy, and Elizabeth Padgett, grandchildren, Olive and Ezra Padgett. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Malcolm Blanchard and his wife, Dottie, of Newcastle, and their family. Friends are invited to call 5-7 p.m. Sunday, May 13, at Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, May 14, at Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church with the Rev. Heather Kurtz officiating.
