CAMDEN – Dorothy Elizabeth T.W. Beck, 89, formerly of Owl’s Head, died Saturday, June 9, 2007, at Anderson Inn at Quarry Hill, Camden. Born Dec. 4, 1917, in Trenton, N.J., with her twin sister, Helen, she was a daughter of James L. and Elizabeth Brooks Toomey. In 1941, she graduated from Montclair Teachers College and in 1968 earned a master’s degree in education from that same institution. On Aug. 6, 1955, she married Adam N. Beck. They made their home in Montclair, N.J., where they raised two children. In 1965, after devoting herself to her children as a stay-at-home mom, she returned to her calling as an educator. She taught and served as dean of the liberal arts department at Katherine Gibbs School, Mont-clair. After retiring in 1980, Mrs. Beck moved with her husband to Lucia Beach Road, Owl’s Head. Mrs. Beck enjoyed her home there until moving to Anderson Inn 18 months ago. Since moving to Owl’s Head, Mrs. Beck had been an active member of St. John Baptist Episcopal Church, Thomaston. She was a former clerk of the church’s vestry and a member of the Episcopal Church Women. Mrs. Beck served as a volunteer at Penobscot Bay Medical Center and was a past secretary and member of the PBMC Auxiliary. She was a past member of the Owl’s Head Garden Club. Mrs. Beck was predeceased by her husband, Adam N. Beck, in 2000; her son, Robert Freeman Beck, in 1985; her daughter, Marjorie Beck Conte, in 2005; and her twin sister, Helen T. Young, this past spring. She is survived by her son-in-law, Michael R. Conte of Bolton, Conn.; her daughter-in-law, Anita Beck Reed of Sparta, N.J.; two grandchildren, Gregory R. Conte of Waterford, Conn., and Allison C. Makaro-wski and her husband, Kevin, of Alexander; one great-grandson, Andrew Beck Makarowski, as well as several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to visit 2-4 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland. A service to be held at St. Johns Baptist Episcopal Church, Thomaston, will be announced at a later date.
