BANGOR – Dorothy Frances (Hinkle) McOscar, 79, passed away peacefully Dec. 15, 2006, in Bangor, after a short illness. She was born Jan. 3, 1927, in Philadelphia, the daughter of John F. and Mary E. (Galvin) Hinkle. Dorothy was an avid reader and possessed a keen intellect and an abiding interest in the world and people around her. She had a special talent for nurturing the curiosity of children, and her work career included several years as an elementary school teacher. She also worked as an executive secretary at a Philadelphia bank. Her community service included serving as a Cub Scout leader, as a Democratic Party committeewoman, and as an assistant librarian at the Swarthmore Public Library in Pennsylvania. Dorothy is survived and will be missed by her husband of 53 years, Joseph; her son, Joseph Jr. and his wife, Terry Carroll, of Bangor; her grandchildren, Lydia and Thomas McOscar also of Bangor; and her sister, Marie Busillo of West Grove, Pa. She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, John and Richard; and her sister, Margaret. Her family would like to thank the staff at Eastside Rehabilitation and Living Center, Bangor, for their generous and caring assistance during her recent stay at that facility. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, Bangor. A graveside service will be held after at Mount Hope Cemetery.
