FORT FAIRFIELD – Mrs. Ella Mae Durost, 80, beloved wife of Robert E. Durost, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, at her residence after an extended illness. She was born Aug. 26, 1926, in Tinker, New Brunswick, the daughter of Edmund Sr. and Ada Matilda (McGraw) Argraves. Ella attended school in Aroostook Junction, New Brunswick, and was married to Robert E. Durost Nov. 3, 1945. The couple resided in Massachusetts for 45 years and upon retiring, returned to Fort Fairfield in 1996, and attended St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where Ella was active until the onset of her illness. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and sewing and equally enjoyed giving the beautiful crafts that she created to friends and family members. In addition to her parents, Ella was predeceased by two sons, Ronald and John Durost; one daughter, Gloria Durost; three sisters, Lena Scanlon, Annie and Helen Argraves. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert E. Durost of Fort Fairfield; two sons, Robert E. Durost Jr. and wife, Susan, of South Lancaster, Mass., Wayne D. Durost of Limestone; two brothers, Edmund Jr. “Buddy” and Gordon Argraves, both of Tinker, New Brunswick; one sister, Irene Pierce of Auburn, Mass.; five grandchildren, Susanne Durost Tremblay of Seattle, Sandra Durost of Huberston, Mass., Melanie Durost, Robert Durost III and Ronnie Durost, all of South Lancaster, Mass.; six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 166 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Smith officiating. Spring interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of fellowship with refreshments will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Parish Hall immediately after the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Mrs. Durost to the Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter, 163 Lancaster St., Suite 160B, Portland, ME 04101-2406.
