BAILEYVILLE – Dorothy L. Hoops, 82, died Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at a Calais hospital, with her son by her side. Dorothy was born July 20, 1925, in Queens, N.Y., daughter of the late John and Mabel (Williams) Grimes. After graduating from Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School, Brooklyn, N.Y., she entered St. Catherine School of Nursing, where she graduated in 1946. Dorothy worked as a registered nurse for various hospitals in New York for the next 20 years. In 1966, she became the school nurse for Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School until her retirement in 1992. Dorothy married William Hoops, Sept. 10, 1949. She was a communicant of St. James the Greater R.C. Church, Baileyville, and a former member of New York Nurses Association. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her loving husband, William; a sister, Mary Lussier; a brother, Robert Grimes; and a brother-in-law, Michael Hoops. Surviving are her three sons, Mark Hoops and his wife, Lorinda, of Hopewell Junction, N.Y., Dr. Brian Hoops and his wife, Julie, of Baileyville, and Emmett Hoops and his wife, Angela, of Saranac Lake, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Kirstin, Stephen, Sally, Bonnie, Jake, Emily and Margaret; a dear friend, Jacqueline Hoops of Burlington, Vt.; a sister-in-law, Marie Hoops of New York; three brothers-in-law, Robert Hoops and his wife, Anne, John Hoops and his wife, Florence, and Richard Lussier, all of New York; and many nieces and nephews. A Catholic funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at St. James the Greater R.C. Church, Baileyville, by Father Frank Morin. Burial will take place at a later date beside her husband at Long Island National Cemetery, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy’s memory may be made to St. James the Greater R.C.
