PRESQUE ISLE and VENICE, Fla.- Dorothy P. Kelley, 78, wife of Allen W. Kelley, died Dec. 22, 2003, at Venice, Fla. She was born on Oct. 15, 1925, in Clarinda, Iowa, the daughter of Ethan S. and Ethus (Ginn) Parsons. The family moved to Hiawatha, Kan., in 1928. Dorothy graduated from Hiawatha High School and attended Kansas State University at Manhattan, Kan. She was a member of Tri-Delta Sorority. After their marriage at Great Bend, Kan., the couple moved to Presque Isle. Mrs. Kelley was a 50-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She served as State Vice-President of the Auxiliary for Aroostook County and organized the Ray Goding Junior Auxiliary. She was a member of Lunar Chapter No. 126 OES and a member of the Grant Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a past member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club. Mrs. Kelley worked 18 years for the Maine Potato Council, serving 16 years as editor of the “Potato Councilor,” the monthly publication, and 13 years as the Executive Vice President. Dottie, as she was known throughout the United States, organized the National Coalition for Fair Trade in an effort to curb the flow of subsidized agriculture products into the United States. She received many honors including eight plaques from various organizations in recognition of service to agriculture. She is listed in the Who’s Who of American Women, the Who’s Who of International Women, Maine’s Most Prominent People and the Federal Register. Besides her husband of 58 years, she is survived by three sons and their families, Ethan and Elsie Kelley of Detroit, Mark and Ann Kelley of Lakeland, Fla., and Lance Kelley of Presque Isle; seven grandchildren, Eric Kelley and his wife, Trish, of Old Town, Evan Kelley of Detroit, Jed and Zebulon Kelley of Presque Isle, Erin, Lindsey and Byron Kelley of Lakeland, Fla.; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Emery Skillin, and sister-in-law, Phyllis Leavitt, all of Presque Isle. Relatives and friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Grant Memorial United Methodist Church in Presque Isle, with the Rev. Thomas Blackstone officiating. Spring interment will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle.
