STEPHENSON, Va. – Dr. Allen S. White, Professor Emeritus died March 31, 2005, at his residence in Stephenson, Va. Dr. White was born Oct. 17, 1936, in Bangor to Ralph and Bertha (Light) White. He was the devoted husband to Maureen (Micki) G. White for 47 years. Dr. White graduated from Hermon High School in 1954, and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 until 1959. He earned a BA at the University of Maine in 1962, and MFA at the University of Ohio in 1964, and a Ph.D. at the University of Michigan in 1970. In 1967, Dr. White joined the Bowling Green State University Theatre Department faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences. During this tenure at BGSU, he was elected chair of the Faculty Senate and held a number of administrative positions including head of Theatre Productions, Director of the School of Speech Communication, and the coordinator of graduate studies in Theatre. He served as a play director, staging scores of productions for BGSU and other venues. At the time of his retirement in 1998, Dr. White was a full professor with numerous publications, presentations and association memberships to his credit. Dr. White retired in 1998 and moved with his wife to Stephenson, Va., where he became active in the community and a member of St. Leo Catholic Church in Inwood, W.Va. Dr. White is survived by his wife, Maureen; one sister, Sharon Nickerson of Hermon; one brother, Carl White of Plainfield, Conn.; three children, Kimmarie White Lewis of Boyce, Va., Christopher Allen White of Bowling Green, Ohio, and Antony Roman White of Tipton, Iowa; five grandchildren, Travis James Lewis, Chad Allen Lewis, and Jessica Ann Lewis of Boyce, Va., Alex Antony White of Tipton, Iowa, and McKenzie Marie White of Bowling Green, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters, Beverley Melito and Faye Kierstead. A memorial Mass will be held 10 a.m. Friday, April 8, at St. Leo with the Rev. D.
