FORT KENT – Dr. Maurice J. Cyr, DDS, 85, died peacefully March 4, 2008, surrounded by his family, at his residence. He was born May 19, 1922, in Fort Kent, the son of Dr. Irene and Agnes (Nolan) Cyr, DDS. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943 while attending Georgetown University, Wash-ington, D.C., as a dental student. After completing the school of dentistry, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he was commissioned a captain. After his practice as a dentist in the Air Force, he returned to Fort Kent and continued his practice in dentistry. He was a member of Fort Kent Rotary Club, and charter member of Fort Kent Gulf Club. His favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Muriel (Mertes) Cyr of Fort Kent; three children, Kathy Marquis of Westbrook, Ben Cyr of Bangor, and Maurice J. Cyr II and his wife, Vicki, of San Jose, Calif.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Beatrice Dubord of Waterville; several nieces and nephews. In addition to both parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Norman Cyr, in 2007. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, March 8, at St. Louis Catholic Church, Fort Kent. At the families’ request, donations in his memory may be made to a charity of choice. Arrangements are a service of Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home, 14 East Main St., Fort Kent.
