FRANKLIN – Dwight H. Wallace, 78, of Franklin, joined his ancestors and wife on Jan. 11, 2004. Dwight was born Oct. 13, 1925, the fourth child of Shirley Wallace and Lillian Harriman Wallace. He proudly served as signalman, U.S. Navy, on board the NTS Sampson, the NTS Bainbridge and LST-176 during World War II in the South Pacific. A lifelong resident and businessman of Franklin, Dwight also served many years as town selectman, and a member of the planning board for Franklin. He was a loyal friend and quick to lend a hand to anyone in need. He was predeceased by his wife, Doris (Maher) Wallace; sisters, Beverly Wallace Urquhart, Thelma Butler; brothers, Duane Wallace, Stuart Wallace and Evans Lawrie. He is survived by his two sons, and one daughter, Terry Wallace and wife, Gail, Shane Wallace and wife, Barbara, Kimberly Wilbur and husband, Daniel; seven grandchildren, Stacey, Christopher, Kelsey, Jason, Jessica, Jesse and Jennifer; and his two sisters, Juanita Lawrie Alley and husband, Henry, and Marilyn Wallace Butler. The family would like to extend much appreciation to a very special daughter-in-law, Barbara. A private family committal will be conducted in the spring. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at the Franklin Veteran’s Club. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Dwight’s honor for the benefit of a local student will be set up. Arrangements are under the care of Cremation Services of Maine, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
