BANGOR – Virginia L. (Martinson) Erskine, 86, died Jan. 11, 2004, at the Bangor Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy illness. Born Dec. 3, 1917, in Manchester, N.H., she was the daughter of Oscar and Margaret (Carlin) Martinson. She had been a Manchester resident most of her life. She graduated from Central High School, class of 1936, married and raised a family and had a long career as a secretary in the Manchester area. She retired from the American Cancer Society, New Hampshire Division. Virginia was a lifelong member of the Daughters of Scotia and of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Manchester. She was a deacon, and elder of the church, and sang in the church choir. She was also a member of the church’s Unity Circle and Fortnightly Couples’ Club. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Lewis Erskine; and by her daughter, Laurel Thomas. She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Patches and Margaret Puckett, both of Bangor; six grandchildren, Kirsten Ellis of Los Angeles, Calif., Evan Thomas and Daniel Thomas of Milford, N.H., Barbera Dooley of Greenbelt, Md., Blaine Puckett and Carlin Puckett of Bangor. Calling hours are from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., Manchester, N.H. Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
