NEWPORT – E. Maxine Stuart, 84, died Nov. 18, 2004, at a Dexter healthcare facility. She was born Sept. 22, 1920, in Corinna, a daughter of James and Linnie (Badger) Chambers. Maxine was a graduate of Corinna Union Academy, Class of 1938. On Oct. 28, 1939, she married Roland Eugene Stuart. Maxine and Roland owned and operated Stuart’s Greenhouse in Newport until their retirement. Maxine was a member of the High Street Church, Barrows-Skidgel Post American Legion Auxiliary, and Friends of the Newport Public Library. She was predeceased by her husband, Roland; a son, Ronald; four brothers, Elmer, Ivan, Carl and Alva Chambers; and a sister, Lynda Spencer. She is survived by two sons, Jon Stuart and wife, Constance, of Carmel and Wayne Stuart of Sangerville; a sister, Barbara Bishop of Zephyrhills, Fla.; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered by special friends, Joseph Mancuso Esq., Geraldine Varney, Joyce Nelson, and Geraldine Knight. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, at the High Street Congregational Church, Newport, with Pastor Al H. Worden officiating. Committal services will be held at the family lot, Riverside Cemetery, Newport, next week at a time to be announced. Memorial donations may be made to the Newport Cultural Center Building Fund, care of Town of Newport, 23 Water St., Newport, ME 04953. Envelopes will also be available at the service.
