BANGOR – Edgar “Ed” E. Lingley, 80, passed away June 26, 2006, at a local healthcare facility after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born Oct. 12, 1925, in Lubec, the son of Edgar and Viola (Cox) Lingley. Ed served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the invasion of Normandy at Omaha Beach. He served upon ship LST 510. He became a barber in 1949, at Dow Air Force in Bangor and in 1956, opened and operated Ed Lingley’s Barber Shop for 50 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Penobscot Conservation Club, the New Voice Club and the Brewer Eagles. Throughout his lifetime he enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting and bowling, but mostly he enjoyed being with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be missed by his many friends and customers. He is survived by his son, Scott Lingley and his wife, Neta; one grandson, Zachary Scott; two granddaughters, Libbi Mona and Kasey Amelia; one sister, Muriel Cole of Machias; life partner and caregiver, Carmen Darkis of Bangor; very special niece, Donna Avery and her husband, Jeff; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Mona (Day); sister, Ellen Ingersoll; and brother, Mike Lingley. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Thursday, June 29, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 30, with the Rev. Robert T. Carlson, Chaplain of Husson College, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at Brookings-Smith, Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor after the services Friday.
