CARIBOU – Edith (McIntire) Griffin passed away Sept. 8, 2007, at Saginaw Pines Nursing Home, Saginaw, Mich. Edith was born April 6, 1906, to Jefferson and Jennie (Ellingwood) McIntire, in Caribou, the youngest of five children; three brothers, Percival, Herbert and Elmer; and sister, Lillian (McIntire) Borden, all deceased. Edith graduated from Caribou High School in 1924 and Aroostook State Normal School, now the University of Maine – Presque Isle in 1929. She taught for one year at Linden Center School and taught fourth grade for five years at South Main, Sincock, Elementary School. She quit teaching upon her marriage to Stacy S. Griffin, Sept. 11, 1935. She had met him through common interests in horses, wildflowers and birds. She had one son, Warren, now of Saginaw, Mich. She worked on the farm on Green Ridge with Stacy, providing the support, which is required to make farming possible. She also worked for many years as a part-time clerk-typist for the Maine Department of Agriculture, Division of Markets, Potato Inspection Service. She took full-time employment there in 1956 and remained there for about 10 years. She remained in Caribou for two years after Stacy’s death in 1999 and then moved to live with her son. She became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1951. She was the first president of the church’s women’s organization, The Relief Society in the Caribou area. She served as pianist/ organist for many years, taught in the Sunday school and the Relief Society, and served as assistant genealogy librarian, along with other church assignments. Her greatest loves were her family, her church, music, nature and handicrafts. She will be missed by her family and friends. We look forward to our reunion with her in the resurrection promised by our Savior Jesus Christ. She is survived by her son, Warren Griffin and his wife, Carolann (Walker); granddaughter, Tamara (Griffin) Martinez and her husband, Alex, with great-grandchildren, Jessica, Rebecca, Hannah, Cade and Sariah; grandson, Seth Meyerink-Griffin and his wife, Reva; granddaughter, Bethany (Griffin) Robinson and her husband, Larry, with great-grandchildren, Tyrone and Brittany; and grandson, Enoch. Friends may call 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at Car-ibou Church Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 67 Paris Snow Drive. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the church with the Bishop Elliott officiating. Interment will take place at Green Ridge Cemetery. Arrangements are by Mockler Funeral Home, Caribou.
