CORINTH – Edith L. (Scranton) Cain, 98, passed away Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, at her home with her family by her side. She was born March 15, 1909, in Salem, Mass., the daughter of D. Stewart and Margaret (O’Brien) Scranton. Edith graduated from Lynn English High School, Lynn, Mass., Class of 1927, and Bryant and Stratton Junior College, Boston, Class of 1930. She was a member of Washington Street Baptist Church, Lynn, Mass., for more than 60 years. During that time, she was chairman of the Board of Christian Education, superintendent of the junior department and was appointed Deaconess Emeritus in 1986. After moving to Corinth, she attended Corinth United Baptist Church. Edith was a member of Victory Chapter No. 157, Order of Eastern Star, Salem, Mass. She was past president of Lynn (Mass.) Union Hospital Auxiliary and involved with the gift shop for 17 years and donated 25,000 hours of service. She was loved and will be missed by three children and their spouses, Carol (Cain) Kitchenka and her husband, Frank, of Naples, Nancy (Cain) Baker Haney and her husband, Alexander Jr., of Corinth, and Richard Cain and Gail Bruns of Corinth. She also leaves behind six loving grandchildren, Carin Cain, M.D., Paul Kitchenka, Bryan Kitchenka, Julie Ferland, Kevin Baker and Laura Baker Goulet. Edith also loved and enjoyed her nine great-grandchildren, Daniel, Caroline, Hannah, Joshua, Douglas, Lucy, Graham, Erin and Riley. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Edith’s wonderful caregivers and St. Joseph Hospital Hospice Services for the exceptional care they provided. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years, Charles E. Cain, who passed away in 2002. They both enjoyed many years of traveling the world after his retirement. Friends may call 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a celebration of Edith’s life will be held 5 p.m. with the Rev.
