ORRINGTON – Francis Roland Wardwell, 85, husband of the late Hazel (Homsted) Ward-well, died Dec. 3, 2007, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Oct. 26, 1922, in Bucksport, son of Harry D. and Edith L. (Allison) Wardwell. Rokie was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater on the USS Phoenix during World War II and was a member of the VFW. He was a truck driver all his life, and was the owner of Wardwell Septic Service for many years and more recently Gus’s Septic Service with his grandson, Nathan. He was also a member of Ralph J. Pollard Lodge No. 217 AF & AM of Orrington, Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Bangor and Anah Shriners. Rokie enjoyed being with his family, working, playing pranks on the neighborhood kids, camping and fishing. Surviving are three, children, Dana R. Wardwell and his wife, Sherry, Brian K. Wardwell and his wife, Edith, and Karen A. Newcomb and her husband, Bruce, all of Orrington; four grandchildren, Lynn, Nathan, Brian “BJ,” all of Orrington, and Sarah Wardwell of Holden, who will always love their “Bampie;” two sisters, Lillian Goss of Blue Hill and Avis Shaw of Orrington; nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by a special friend, Nancy Read, whom the family would like to thank for her love and support. In addition to his parents, Rokie was predeceased by his wife, Hazel; infant daughter, Debra; and two brothers, Vernon “Turk” Wardwell and Forrest “Sam” Wardwell. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec 5, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where all are invited to a Masonic memorial service at 7:30 p.m. conducted by the officers and members of Ralph J.
