LOWELL and MATTAWAMKEAG – Edith Vanessa (Crockett) Budge, 88, of Lowell, formerly of Mattawamkeag, died peacefully in her sleep at her son’s home on Wednesday Oct. 15, 2003. Born May 14, 1915, in Mattawamkeag, she was a lifelong resident until 1993. She was the daughter of the late Mae (Hale) Crockett and Everett V. Crockett, and was the wife of the late Fred A. Budge Sr. who died in 1960. She was raised and educated in the Mattawamkeag Public Schools and was a graduate of Mattawamkeag High School, Class of 1935. She was an active member of the Grange for 70 years and was a Past Master. She was a Charter member of the Mattawamkeag VFW Auxiliary and a life member of the Eastern Star. She was active in community affairs and served on the Mattawamkeag School Committee as a member and Chairperson in the 1960s. She worked at the Forster Manufacturing Company in Mattawamkeag for 24 years, retiring in 1977. She leaves three children, Bert E. Budge Sr. and his wife, (a special daughter-in-law) Joyce, of Lowell, with whom she lived for the past 10 years, Edith B. Yates and her husband, Lincoln, of Hudson, Mass., and Florence M. Landry and her husband, Ron, of Orrington; one sister, Carolyn (Troutt) Craig and her husband, Wallace, of East Millinocket. She was the sister of the late Everett V. “Jack” Crockett, formerly of Winn. She leaves 12 grandchildren, Bert E. Budge Jr. of Falcon, Colo., Brent A. Budge of Bradley, Robert J. Budge of Island Falls, Fredrick A. Budge of Lee, April Michalik of St. Paul, Minn., Malcolm W. Budge of Norfolk, Linda (Bourinot) Brown of Lincoln, Robert L., John F. and Christopher P. Yates, all of Hudson, Mass., Laurie Marsters of Melvern Pa. and Joseph N. Landry, II of Verona Island. She also leaves 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Fred A. Budge Jr. who died in 1968; a grandson, Jack E. Budge who died in 1981; a great-granddaughter, Hope A. Budge who died in 1988; and a son-in-law, David. J. Bourinot who died in 2003. Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tom Bell officiating.
