EAGLE LAKE – Edmond “Sam” Saucier, 84, died April 16, 2004, at a Fort Kent health-care facility. He was born May 20, 1919, in Winterville, the son of Thomas and Agnes (Albert) Saucier. Sam was World War II veteran and fought in the battle of Luzon. He was a paratrooper during World War II and received the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, and the Bronze Star. He worked for the Great Northern Paper Co. for 33 years. Sam enjoyed the outdoors with his children. He was a member of the American Legion Post 176 of Eagle Lake, Boy Scout Leader and an avid hunter and fisherman. He held the record in 1956 for having shot the fourth largest deer in Maine. To Sam, the Denny Pond was a very special place he held in his heart. Sam is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth K. (Palmer_ Saucier of Eagle Lake; eight children, Lola Pelletier and her husband, Richard, of Eagle Lake, Terry Dwyer of Nashua, N.H., Sharon Michaud and her husband, Fred, of Eagle Lake, Tony Saucier and his wife, Linda, of Eagle Lake, Janie Lausier of San Antonio, Texas, Donna Saucier of Eagle Lake, Bobby Saucier and his wife, Lisa, of Eagle Lake, and Tim Saucier and his wife, Connie, of Eagle Lake; 18 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one son, Clair, in 1948; three brothers; and three sisters. It was Sam’s request that there be no public viewing. Friends are invited to go directly to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Eagle Lake, for a 2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial with full military honors, Monday, April 19, 2004. Spring burial will follow at a later date. Those who wish may donate in his memory to the St. Mary’s Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 249, Eagle Lake, ME 04739. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and at the church. Arrangements are being conducted by the Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home, Fort Kent.
