BANGOR – Edna Mary Hawes Noddin, 93, died Dec. 9, 2007, surrounded by love, at a Bangor health care center. She was born Sept. 16, 1914, to George and Evelyn (Jones) Hawes in East Corinth. Edna graduated from East Corinth Academy in 1933 and from Eastern State Normal School for teachers, Castine, Class of 1935. Although only five feet two inches, basketball was her game at both schools. She married Cornelius “Nick” Noddin in 1936. They lived most of their 56 years of marriage in Bangor. After retirement they enjoyed 11 winters in Florida. Edna’s passions were her family, being a fun and loving Nana to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, her faithful dog and companion of 16 years, Spencer, camp at Grand Lake Stream, the Red Sox and Patriots, her garden, mowing the lawn, bingo and even shoveling snow. Those beautiful blue eyes will be missed and remembered by many, including good friends and neighbors. She was predeceased by her husband, Nick in 1992; brother and sister-in-law, Leslie “Peter” and June Hawes; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Joe Smyth; infant grandson, Kevin Belangia in 1959; granddaughter, Susan Stafford Ellingson in 1998. Surviving are five children, Cornelius “Neil” Noddin Jr. and his wife, Paula, of Bangor; daughter, Colleen Stafford and her husband, Gail, of Cape Canveral, Fla.; daughter, Cleo Belangia and her husband, Dan, of Winterville, N.C.; daughter, Claire Powell and her husband, Jim, of Antioch, Ill.; son, Conrad Noddin and his wife, Alisa, of Spring Hill, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren, David Belangia and his wife, Laurie, of North Carolina, Jill Stafford Harriman and her husband, Donn, of Readfield, Jeff Hassen and his wife, Diane, of Illinois, Craig Noddin of Bangor, Matthew Belangia of North Carolinoa, Scott Stafford and his wife, Carrie, of Tennesse, Cathy Noddin Edwards and her husband, Chuck, of Hampden, Janis Belangia Hall and her husband, Woody, of North Carolina, Carol Noddin Bailey and her husband, Bill, of Scarborough, Denise Hassen DeMeyer and her husband, John, of Illinois, Curt Noddin and his wife, Janice, of Bangor and Christy Noddin West and her husband, Scott, of Minnesota; 24 great-grandchildren, Ryan Ellingson and his wife, Kim, of Virginia, Shane Ellingson and his wife, Tiffany, of Virginia, Ben Edwards of Bangor, Katelyn and Greg Stafford of Tennessee, Christopher and Caroline Carrothers of North Carolina, Kyle and Kelly Hassen of Illinois, Niki, Megan, Danny, Mitch and Joey DeMeyer of Illinois, Emily and Ethan Harriman of Readfield, Catherine and Sean Bailey of Scarborough, CJ and Conner Noddin of Bangor, Alec and Jade Noddin of Bangor, Sammy and Sophy West of Minnesota; one great-great-grandson, Andrew Ellingson of Virginia; several nieces and nephews. The staff at Eastside Rehabilitation and Living Center will be remembered for their compassionate care of Edna and her family during her last five weeks of life.
