BANGOR – Edward A. Barry, 91, husband of Mary L. (Strick-land) Barry, died peacefully May 4, 2007, at a Bangor nursing facility. He was born Nov. 24, 1915, in Bangor, the eldest son of Edward J. and Elizabeth (Martin) Barry. He was educated at St. John’s Catholic School and graduated from John Bapst High School, Class of 1935. Edward grew up as a young boy as an active member of St. John’s Catholic Church, and later as an adult. In his later years, upon his return to Bangor, he became a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Ed was a member of the Pine Cone Council Knights of Columbus. He joined the U.S. Army Air Force in 1942, serving as an electrical engineer for three years. Edward worked at several printing companies and ended his career as a compositor at the Bangor Daily News, in 1980, after 25 years of service. He and his wife, Mary were married for 67 years, and enjoyed traveling to Lakeland, Fla., for 22 winters. They owned a home in Sterling Park, Lakeland, Fla., where they made many friends and enjoyed years of golfing and bowling. They moved back to Bangor in 2001, making their home at Sunbury Village, which they loved very much. He is survived by his wife, Mary; one brother, Robert L. Barry and wife, Nadine, of Brewer and Melbourne, Fla.; Edward and Mary had no children, but many nieces and nephews, who were very close to them. He was predeceased by his parents; one sister, Marjorie Browning; and four brothers, Thomas, Donald; William and Patrick. Interment will be in the family lot at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, at a future date. A service of Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor.
