EAST HARTFORD, CONN. – Edward A. O’Brien, 76, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, in Saint Francis Hospital. He was born in Hartford, Conn., and was a son of the late Jeremiah F. and Florence (Wilson) O’Brien. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, Edward lived in East Hartford, Conn., his entire life and married Theresa Rice in 1965. Edward worked for many years as an appliance repairman, but music was his life. He was a drummer and a singer. He served as past president of the American Folk Musicians Association, and was in numerous bands, including O’B and the Double Eagles and O’B and the Nutones, and most recently, Friday nights at the East Hartford South End Seniors, O’B and Friends. Edward was also involved in many civic and social organizations, including American Legion Post No. 102, where he was a member of the executive board, past governor of the Loyal Order of Moose, and past commander of Civil Air Patrol. He was also Scoutmaster of Troop No. 18, Hartford, Conn., and Troop No. 91, Manchester, Conn. In addition to his wife, he also leaves his daughter, Barbara and her husband, James McGrath, of Holden; his two grandchildren, Christopher and his fiance, Julie Hoffman, of Bristol, Pa., and Tammy and her husband, Scott Dudley, of Stockbridge, Ga.; six great-grandchildren; his sister, Jean and her husband, Frank Jones, of East Hartford, Conn.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, William. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter St., East Hartford, Conn., with the Rev. James Nock officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will be at Silver Lane Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel.
