BANGOR – Edward D. Leonard III, beloved husband of Sandra Blake Leonard, passed away unexpectedly Oct. 25, 2007, at a local hospital. He was the son of Elizabeth and Edward D. Leonard Jr. Ted grew up in Newton Center, Mass., and spent summers at the family’s summer home in Boothbay Harbor. He was a graduate of Deerfield Academy, the University of Maine and the University of Maine School of Law. Ted was a senior partner with Eaton Peabody and absolutely loved going to work every day. Marine history and sailing were his great passions. He and his wife recently commissioned the building of a Boothbay Harbor One Design, a project of which he was most proud and which is featured on the cover of the current issue of Wooden Boat magazine. Ted was completely immersed in any project he undertook and this boat was no exception. He and close friend, Maynard Bray, along with Steve White and the crew of the Brooklin Boatyard spent many hours in consultation as the boat took shape. Ted also loved to fly fish and was thrilled to spend time with dear friends fishing in the Gaspe in September. He and Sandra spent their honeymoon fishing on the Margaree in Cape Breton. He treasured time in the out of doors. Ted served on numerous boards throughout the state in various capacities, including board of visitors for the University of Maine School of Law, The Bangor Children’s Home, Katahdin Council – Boy Scouts of America, University of Maine Museum of Art, Eddington Salmon Club and the Penobscot Marine Museum. In addition to his wife Sandra of Bangor, Ted is survived by stepsons, Sterling Blake and wife, Tonia, of San Francisco and Boothbay Harbor, and Scott Blake and wife, Elizabeth, of Bangor and Boothbay Harbor; grandchildren, Cyrus, Charlotte and Sawyer; stepmother, Barbara Leonard of Boothbay Harbor; brothers, Nathaniel Leonard and wife, Eve, of Valdez, Alaska, and Michael Leonard and wife, Sissy, of Machias; sisters, Linda Leonard and husband, Peter Flynn, of Bath and Richmond and Patricia Leonard of Denver; nieces, Sara, Lisle and Megan; and nephew, Ted.
