PARSONSFIELD – Edwin C. Berg Sr., 89, of Merrill Hill Road, passed away April 17, 2004, in Fryeburg, at the home of his son, John and his wife, Cathy. He was born in Chicago, Ill., a son of Herman and Clara Werner Berg. Mr. Berg was educated in Chicago schools. He worked in a Rhode Island mill, at the South Portland Shipyard, at the Leavitt Plantation for 25 years, was a self-employed painter, and was a custodian at Sacopee High School until his retirement in 1980. After retiring he continued to caretake multiple properties well into his 80s. He was a member of the East Parsonsfield Grange, Parsonsfield Town Club, and Friends of Par Sem. He enjoyed building dollhouses, playing card games, bowling, doing jig saw puzzles, spending time with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His wife of 66 years, Irene V. Berg died Sept. 11, 2003. He is survived by three daughters, Helen Kresher of Lake Forest, Calif., Grayce Zinavage of Fryeburg and Mary McClure of Bangor; two sons, Edwin C. Berg Jr. of Cornish and John L. Berg of Fryeburg; 18 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. A visiting hour will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 8, at Neal & York Funeral Home, 12 High St., Kezar Falls, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Pastor Robert Irish will officiate. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery.
