PALM BEACH, Fla. – Edwin Osgood Bussey Jr., died May 21, 2005, at his summer home in Southwest Harbor. Born March 9, 1924, in Georgia, he was the son of Edwin Osgood Bussey Sr. and Willie Mae Mobley. The family arrived to Florida in 1929. He attended Palm Beach High. Edwin married Virginia Patricia Owen May 5, 1946. He served his country as a pilot in World War II and the Korean War and had 14 years of active reserve in the U.S. Air Force. His multi facetted business endeavors included commercial charter pilot, for more than 40 years with more than 10,000 hours; imports and distributors of British Leyland Cars, Subaru automobiles and distributor of Excalibur automobiles and Jensen Healey. He also held many offices which included, president of the Navy League, Palm Beach Council, commander of Palm Beach Power Squadron, president of Sailfish Club of Florida, served as treasurer of Sailfish Club of Florida for 20 years; chairman of Mall Bank, director of Flagier National Bank, director of First Union, chairman of the British Leyland Distributors Assoc. and Subaru Distributors Assoc. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, “Bride” Virginia; their son, Edwin Osgood Bussey III; grandson, Alexander Clarke Bussey; his sister, Betty Sue Cowherd. He will be greatly missed by those that were honored to know him. He was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. There will be a memorial celebration held at a later date.
