PRESQUE ISLE – Edwina Julia Peters, 89, died Saturday morning, July 17, 2004, at the Maine Veterans Home, Caribou. She was born June 15, 1915, at Fort Kent, the daughter of Isidore and Delina (Theriault) Viel. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Edwina was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Presque Isle, and was adopted by the Caribou VFW while she was a resident of the Maine Veterans Home. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Merchant and her husband, Leon, of Caribou; two brothers, Edmund and Milton Viel of Van Buren; three sisters, Pearl Rowland and Bella Michaud, both of Van Buren, and Doris Karcher of Waterbury, Conn.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Alphonese in 1985. Relatives and friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday, at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. David Raymond officiating. Interment will be in North Main Street Catholic Cemetery, Presque Isle. Donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society Maine Division Inc., P.O. 456, Brunswick, ME 04011 or to the charity of one’s choice.
