BREWER – Effie Ellis Hendrickson, 84, died peacefully Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, surrounded by her family, of com-plications due to diabetes at Westgate Manor, Bangor. She was born Feb. 1, 1923, in Bre-wer, the daughter of Benjamin and Frances (Sanborn) Ellis. Her love for the Maine coast was always evident by her willingness to take the time for a picnic at Schoodic Point. She graduated from Brewer High School in 1940, going on to complete a five-year nursing program at the University of Maine in Orono. She was married to Edward Hendrickson in 1945, at Congregational Church, Hollywood, Calif. She worked three years at Maine Medical Center, Portland, as a nursing instructor. Then, after moving to East Millinocket, she worked for 17 years as the mill nurse while also working as substitute teacher in the community schools. She was also very involved in scouting, church and other community activities. In 1967 she moved with her family to Presque Isle, where she worked as a nursing instructor at Northern Maine Vocational Technical Institute, until her retirement in 1983. She enjoyed many happy years of her retirement spending winters in Sebastian, Fla., and summers at Springy Pond, Clifton. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Edward Hendrickson; sister, Ellen Young of Hampden; daughter, Ellen Hen-drickson and her husband, Jon Benoist, of Phoenix; her son, Eric Hendrickson and his wife, Elaine, of Presque Isle; two grandchildren, Kyle and Mel-issa Hendrickson, as well as several nieces and nephews. At her request, there will be no services.
