ELLSWORTH – Elaine A. Stratton, 84, died Aug. 11, 2007, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital. She was born Feb. 16, 1923, in Ellsworth, the daughter of Harry S. and Gertrude (McFarland) Allen. Elaine graduated from Machias Normal School and Ells-worth High School. She taught third grade in Ellsworth schools for more than 40 years. Elaine was a member of the Maine Teachers Association and Retired Teachers Association. She was very active in Irene Chapter 97 of the Eastern Star and took many offices, she was a past matron, D.D.G.M. from 1986 to 1988, past grand representative, life member and recipient of the Grand Cross of Color for the Rainbow Girls. Elaine was also active in the Teachers Union of Ellsworth. Elaine is survived by her son, Charles Stratton; and one sister-in-law, Sylvia Allen, both of Ellsworth; two nieces, Patricia and husband, Jonathan Marshall, of Ellsworth and Gloria and husband, Randall Sickelsmith, of Davie, Fla.; many other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 48 years, Ronald Stratton; and by her brother, George H. Allen. Friends are invited to call 4-6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14.
