FRYEBRURG – Eleanor Freeman Grove, 102, died Dec. 1, 2005, at the Fryeburg Maine Health Care Center. Eleanor was born Feb. 9, 1903, in West Orange, N.J., the daughter of Hermon and Elizabeth (Morse) Freeman. After high school Eleanor began training at Saint Barnabas Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1924. In 1925, she married Edwin R. Grove, a World War I Army veteran she met when caring for wounded after they had returned home. Eleanor did private duty nursing through the years while raising and caring for their three boys. Edwin predeceased Eleanor in 1959. During the next few years she cared for her aging father. Always an outdoor person Eleanor found herself spending more time in her flower gardens. She was an Audubon Life member, an accomplished observer/ornit-hologist who visited numerous known birding areas in the U.S. and abroad. Eleanor was an energetic caring person whose life was guided by her strong beliefs in family, church and country. She always found time for friends. Eleanor was a prize-winning maker of latch hook rugs and other handmade items. Most of which became gifts for family and friends. Eleanor lived in North Conway, N.H. for many years and was a member of the First Church of Christ Congregational, the Order of Eastern Star, DAR and many other local interests. Her husband, Edwin R. Grove Sr.; two sons, Stewart Freeman Grove Sr., William Morse Grove; and a grandson, Jeffrey Allen Grove predeceased Eleanor. Surviving is one son, Edwin Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Brownfield; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Dec. 10, for Eleanor at the First Church of Christ Congregational with the Rev. Donald Derse officiating.
