NORTHPORT – Eleanor (Paul) Warner, 84, passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006, at a Waldoboro healthcare facility. She was born Sept. 6, 1921, in Belfast, the daughter of Clarence Paul and Ethel (Parker) Paul. She graduated from Crosby High School, Tufts University, and Simmons College Graduate School of Library and Information Science. At Tufts, she was elected to membership in Pen, Paint and Pretzels, the honorary dramatic society. She also studied at the Harcourt School of Bookbinding in Boston, Mass., followed by private studies with Kathleen Wick in Boston, Mass. and Laura S. Young in New York City, N.Y. She was a manager of the research library, at American Science and Engineering, Inc, Cambridge, Mass., when that company took the first X-ray pictures of the sun, library director and a member of the faculty of the New England College of Optometry, Boston, Mass., where the Class of 1977, presented her with a special award for outstanding service in education. Professor Warner was co-author, with Dr. Brian Marsden of the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, of Astronomical Charts, Catalogues, and Ephemerides, published in 1972. In 1981, she published the revised (microfilm) edition of the Warner-Harrington ancestry. Her biography was included in the eighth edition of Who’s Who Of American Women. For many years, she was an active member of the Follen Church Society (Unitarian) in Lexington, Mass. She was a life member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants in the state of Maine and a member of the Islesboro and Morrill Historical Societies. She is survived by twin daughters and their families, Ellen (Mrs. Richard P.) Jones of Kingston, N.H. and Susan (Mrs. David I.) Liebowitz of Plainfield, N.H.; and four granddaughters, Joanna Jones, Tracey Cope and Rachel Jones and Catherine Liebowitz; as well as a niece, Andrea Paul; and three nephews, Wayne, Greg and Jeffery Paul and their families. She was predeceased by her brother, Harrison Parker Paul in 1993. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave, Belfast.
