NEWPORT, N.H. and PALM BAY, Fla. – Elizabeth (Campbell) Matson, 76, formerly of Kent, Conn., died Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at Homes Regional Medical Center in Palm Bay, Fla. She was the wife of Samuel H. Matson for 49 years. Mrs. Matson was born May 15, 1929, in Caribou, the daughter of the late John W.R. and Elizabeth (McGlinn) Campbell. She attended Holy Rosary School, Caribou, graduated from Caribou High School and attended Husson College in Bangor. Her employment career included work for the Maine Potato Growers, Presque Isle; Watertown Manufacturing, Watertown, Conn.; Attorney Francis C. Cady, Kent, Conn.; the Town of Kent as assessors clerk; Republican Registrar of Voters; part-time with Kent town clerk, probate court and tax collector; and the Kimberly-Clark Credit Union in New Milford. A devoted Catholic, she was affiliated with churches in Maine, Litchfield County and Florida. She had volunteered with the Ladies of Sacred Heart, Kent Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance doing book-work, New Milford Hospital gift shop and AARP-Palm Bay chapter as secretary. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Kenneth Matson and his wife, Vicki; and a daughter, Victoria Finch, all of Litchfield; a brother, Robert Campbell and his wife and family of Maine; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, at Sacred Heart Church in Kent, Conn. Burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery will be private.
