HANCOCK – Elizabeth Jane Smith, 45, died unexpectedly Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at her home in Hancock. She was born Jan. 10, 1960, in Greenup, Ky., the daughter of Matthew and Doris (Lyon) Collett. Elizabeth was educated in Kentucky schools. She moved to Maine in 1999, where she met and eventually married Andrew Smith in March of 2000. Elizabeth enjoyed kayaking, working in her yard on flowers and plants, and walking on the beach looking for sea treasures. She also enjoyed writing poetry, cooking and entertaining for her friends. Elizabeth spent much time having long talks with her mother, also playing with her two dogs, and she enjoyed her wonderful home. In addition to her husband of Hancock, she is survived by her mother, Doris Jo Collett of Greenup, Ky.; her siblings, Matthew Collett and his wife, Debbie, of Cattlesburg, Ky., Patty Ison and her husband, Fred, of Hartsville, S.C., Sandra Damron and her husband, Richard, of Worthington, Ky., and Mark Jeff of Greenup, Ky.; a special brother-in-law, Joey Smith and his wife, Tina, of Franklin; special friends, Sherry and Nels, Liz and Pelican, Pastor Jack and Lynn, and the crew at Terry’s Store; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. At Elizabeth’s request, there will be no formal services, however, anyone who wishes to remember Elizabeth in a special way is asked to send a contribution to the Town of Hancock, for a fund to be established to benefit Hancock residents who have a hardship or need assistance in some way. These funds may be sent to the Elizabeth Smith Fund, care of Stacey Clement, P.O. Box 68, Hancock, ME 04640. Cremation arrangements are by Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Ellsworth.
