WINTERPORT – Elizabeth Mabel Cooke, 89, died Nov. 19, 2006, at a Bangor health care center. She was born Nov. 18, 1917, in Winterport, the daughter of Ralph W. and Marion (Morgan) Cooke. Elizabeth was a 1936 graduate of Winterport High School. She was employed as an operator for New England Telephone for 19 years, then as a receptionist and switchboard operator for Channel 2 in Bangor for 24 years. “Tid” or “Liz” as she was affectionately known, was a wonderful friend and neighbor. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, Winterport, was quite a historian on Winterport lore and the last of Winterport’s Irish to live in Paddy Hollow. She was always generous with her time and numerous talents, and will be missed by many. Surviving are cousins including, Roger Perkins of Winterport and his children and their families. She was predeceased by her brother, Willis. She will be remembered by special friends, Stanley and Lee Bowden of Winterport. Her family and friends thank the staff of Stillwater Healthcare for the excellent care they provided. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Winterport, with the Rev. Robert Vaillaincourt, pastor, celebrant.
