EASTON – Elizabeth M. Hoyt, 89, died Jan. 20, 2006, at a Mars Hill healthcare facility. She was born Sept. 4, 1916, in Pigeon Cove, Mass., the daughter of George and Emily (Cameron) Story. She attended school in Pigeon Cove and Rockport, Mass. She graduated in June 1937, from the University of Maine and in the fall of that year married J. Winston Hoyt from Easton. They spent three pleasant years in Farmington, where Win was a farm agent for Agway. In 1941, they and their young daughter moved back to the family farm in Easton. This was quite a change for Lib, but she got busy learning how to churn butter, can vegetables and all the other skills that farm wives need. Three more children were born and when the youngest was starting school, Lib went back to the university part time to gain teaching skills. For the next number of years she taught English and French at Easton High School. She was also in charge of the library. When she and Win retired, they bought a trailer in Port Orange, Fla. They spent 19 happy winters there returning to Maine for the summers so they could both golf. Lib was a good golfer. She also gave time to the Easton Methodist Church. After Win died in the spring of 2003, she moved from the farm to Leisure Gardens in Presque Isle. There she spent many peaceful hours playing piano, knitting and sewing. She was an avid reader. She also continued to play bridge a couple of times a week. She was always glad to see anyone who visited and enjoyed talking on the phone if you called. She is survived by three daughters, Janice Bishop of Alberta, Canada, Suzanne Flewelling and her husband, Jerry and Pat Coffin, all of Easton; a son, John Hoyt and Sharon Baker of Bangor; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Win; and a brother, Cam. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at Mount Shiloh Cemetery, Easton in the spring. Those who wish, may donate in her memory to the Easton Methodist Church, P.O. Box 24, Easton, ME 04740. Arrangements in the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, in Presque Isle.
