ROBBINSTON – Ellen (Diffin) Brooks, 91, beloved wife of the late Elton Brooks, passed away Monday, Feb. 20, 2006, at Calais Hospital. Born July 19, 1914, in Robbinston, to Fred and Bertha (Ayer) Diffin. Ellen, a registered nurse, graduated from Calais Academy in 1932 and from Calais Hospital Nursing School in 1937. She worked as a medical and surgical nurse at Calais and area hospitals, as well as in Bath. She also did private duty nursing. After her nursing career, Ellen served as a postal clerk from 1970-1976 in Robbinston. She was a member of AARP and the Seniority Club of Calais Hospital and at one time was an active member of the Robbinston Grange. Ellen was an excellent swimmer during her younger years and enjoyed all outdoor activities, especially her flower gardens and photography. She is survived by her son, Gregg and wife, Patricia, of Newington, Conn.; and grandsons, Larry and Steven and his fiance, Kathleen, of Connecticut. Ellen is also survived by a brother, Wallace Diffin; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Cliff and Norma Brooks of Robbinston, Gene and Lois Teague of California; sisters-in-law, Irene Diffin of Perry, Helen Moholland Hayden of Calais and Esther Brooks of California; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband of 65 years, Elton, she was predeceased by a brother, Ronald Diffin; sister, Ethel Drew; sisters-in-law, Gertie Diffin, Grayce Morrow, Betty Brown; and brother-in-law, Ivan Brooks. The family would like to thank all the special people who provided loving care, compassion and prayers for Ellen during the past year. It is greatly appreciated.
