HERSEY – Ellen M. Short, 68, died Feb. 3, 2005, at Houlton. She was born March 10, 1936, in Whiting, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Alice (Roans) Maertz. Ellen retired as an RN after 14 years, during that time traveling throughout the world. She was the past president of the U.M.W., and a member of the K.V.H.C. board. In addition to her mother of Warsaw, Ind.; she is survived by her husband of 52 years, Michael Short of Hersey; five children, Michael Short III of Staten Island, Karen Hupp of Old Bridge, N.J., Cathy Damon of Toms River, N.J., Barbara Collins of Staten Island, N.Y. and James Short of Staten Island, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren, four sisters, Joan Radigan, Carol Tozzi, both of New Jersey, Marianne Pratter and Evelyn Rake, both of Indiana; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Stetson Memorial United Methodist Church, Patten, with a funeral service being held 4 p.m. with the Rev. Bill Simpson officiating.
