JONESBORO – Ellis Franklin Smith, 82, died Jan. 22, 2005, at Marshall Health Center in Machias, after a long illness. He was born July 23, 1922, son of Ozias and Anna (White) Smith. He graduated from Jonesboro High School and Central Welding School in Randolph. Ellis was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II No. 226 Military Police Company in Guam. He served as postmaster of Jonesboro for 21 years and rural carrier for four years. He was an avid ham radio operator (WA1FXC) for many years. He also enjoyed his family, gardening, working on his woodlot and blueberry land, wood-working and making model airplanes. Ellis is survived by his wife of 64 years, Olive (Morris) Smith; two sons, Wayne C. Smith of Cherryfield, and Stanley Smith and wife, Donna, of Jonesboro; six grandchildren, Wayne G. Smith and fianc?e, Robin Douglas, of Milbridge, David Smith of Harrington, Frances Ashby and husband, Robert, of Brunswick, Ronald Smith and wife, Brittany, of Milbridge, Karen LoStracco and husband, Felix, of Alexandria, Va., and Kristine Smith of Bronx, N.Y.; nine great-grandchildren, Joshua, Erin, Bayley, Thomas, Joseph, Jessica, Cameron, Micaela, and Connor; two sisters, Natalie Smith of Jonesboro and Alice Wood of Gorham; sister-in-law, Frances Smith of Jonesboro, and special relative, Elden Morris of Jonesboro. Ellis was predeceased by a son, Ronald; and daughter-in-law, Donna Smith of Cherryfield; and brother, Robert Smith of Monmouth. At his request, there will not be any visiting hours. A committal service will be in the spring at Forest Hill Cemetery in Jonesboro. The family wishes to give special thanks to Marshall Health Care, DECH, Dr. Tan, and the Machias Ambulance Service.
